Les is a mining engineer with a degree from Otago University, working in the mining
industry for 40 years.in both New Zealand
He has held senior roles in technical services, mine, project, regional and general management both as a mine operator and as a contractor. Les has worked in iron ore, gold, coal, limestone and aggregates.
In 1998 he established his own consulting business, working on a range of projects including the earthworks, tunnel and shaft construction at Pike and the Bathurst Denniston coking coal project.
Les was the CEO of MinEx from 2013 - 2016. He has been involved in leading industry input into the new legislation and codes of practice as well as offering expert advice from a surface mining perspective. Les has been chairperson of the Governance Group for the review of extractives qualifications, and chairperson of the surface mines working group for that review.
He has held directorships in several contracting companies serving as chairperson of one and remains a director of the Lake Hood Joint Venture.
